Well, here’s the scoop on the P Zero PZ5. It’s the latest generation of Pirelli’s flagship ultra-high-performance summer tyre and it has officially entered the Australian market.

This tyre has been engineered by Pirelli with what they claim has an advanced compound technology and an optimized tread pattern, the PZ5 aims to deliver exceptional handling, braking and comfort for modern sports cars, performance sedans and high-end SUVs.

What Makes PZ5 Stand Out
  • Class leading wet grip   PZ5 carries a 100 % range “A” rating on the EU Tyre Label for wet braking and control.
  • Dual compound asymmetric tread design  A mix of tread compounds and asymmetric tread layout helps provide both sharp dry-road performance and secure wet weather traction.
  • Balanced performance across conditions — The tread’s inclined main grooves and optimized siping improve lateral stability, hydroplaning resistance and offer a smoother, quieter ride.
  • OE level fitment for premium vehicles — PZ5 is homologated for a broad range of high-end cars and SUVs, which aligns with Pirelli’s tradition of supplying tyres for premium vehicle manufacturers.

Who the PZ5 Is For

Whether you drive a rear-wheel-drive sports sedan, a high-performance SUV or a performance tuned electric vehicle (EV), PZ5 is pitched as a tyre capable of matching the demands of high torque, high-speed stability and all weather versatility. For Australian drivers navigating a mix of city streets, coastal highways or wet-weather conditions, the PZ5 offers a compelling balance of performance and daily usability.

Early Reception & Market Position

Independent reviews position PZ5 at the top of the ultra-high-performance segment: excellent dry-handling and braking, strong wet grip and credible comfort levels.
Compared with the previous PZ4 generation, the PZ5 benefits from a revised tread layout designed to reduce wear and maintain performance consistency over the tyre’s life.

Tyrereview.com.au’s Opinion

We were fortunate enough to experience the new Pirelli P ZERO™ range both on public roads in Malaysia during the official launch, and on the iconic Sepang International Circuit.
Our on-road drive took us up to the Genting Highlands in a Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 fitted with the P Zero (PZ5), before switching into a Mercedes-Benz GLC350e and a Mercedes-Benz EQS 500, both riding on the new P Zero E. Across all vehicles, on-road behaviour was impressive. Both tyre variants delivered exceptionally low cabin noise and well-mannered ride characteristics, which paired perfectly with these premium models. Despite the low-profile fitments, road comfort remained plush and composed.
It’s important to note that Malaysian road surfaces are generally very smooth and well maintained. We did not encounter coarse chip, corrugations, or the harsher tar surfaces common across Australia. As such, a true verdict on real-world Australian conditions is still to come once we complete local testing.
Track testing at Sepang revealed the performance bandwidth of the P ZERO™ (PZ5). Conditions shifted between dry stretches and brief, tropical downpours, giving us an excellent mix of scenarios. Behind the wheel of both the Porsche Taycan and the BMW 5 Series, we pushed the tyre as hard as possible. The PZ5 delivered remarkable grip and consistency, feeling almost race-tyre-like in the way it hung on through Sepang’s fast, sweeping corners. Even under high-speed load and through occasional wet sections, the tyre remained stable, predictable, and extremely confidence-inspiring.
