Falken’s New Hybrid Rugged Terrain Tyre Lands in Australia

The rugged terrain tyre segment has exploded over the last few years, and Falken has finally stepped into the category with the all-new Wildpeak RT01.

This Tyre sits directly between the well-loved Wildpeak AT3W all-terrain and the hardcore MT01 mud-terrain. The RT01 is designed for touring rigs, work utes, caravanners and off-roaders wanting real off-road capability without sacrificing on-road manners.

We have just fitted a full set to our 300 Series LandCruiser, and our long-term review will be completed in mid-December. Until then, here’s everything you need to know about Falken’s newest entry and why it's attracting so much attention in the 4WD community.

Here’s all the info from Falken Tyres spec sheet.
Where the Wildpeak RT01 Sits in the Market
Falken already had strong offerings at both ends of the off-road spectrum:
  • Wildpeak AT3W – capable all-terrain with excellent wet-weather performance
  • Wildpeak MT01 – tough mud-terrain with maximum durability
The RT01 fills the gap as a true hybrid RT designed for:
  • More durability and off-road bite than an A/T
  • Smoother, quieter road manners than a full M/T
  • Touring loads, towing, weekend wheeling, and heavy vehicles

Key Technical Features

3-Ply DURASPEC Sidewall – MT-Level Strength

The RT01 uses Falken’s DURASPEC three-ply sidewall, identical to the MT01. Falken’s sidewall impact test results:
Hybrid A/T–M/T Tread Pattern
The RT01 features:
  • High-contact centre tread blocks for load stability and tread life
  • Open shoulder blocks and offset lugs for off-camber grip and mud clearing
  • Stone ejectors and mud defence features to reduce drilling and maintain traction
Step-Down Support Blocks
These stabilise tread movement, improving:
  • Cornering stability
  • Braking performance
  • High-load towing behaviour
