Hankook Dynapro MT2 (RT05) Reviews
The most extreme off-road tyre Hankook offer to date, providing remarkable off-road traction maintaining on-road performance.
Key Features
- Extended thicker shoulder - Angled V-shape shoulder scallops for additional off-road grip and protects the sidewall by deflection of protruding objects. Helps prevent sidewall splitting.
- Sidewall bump protector - Series of bumper protector is designed to protect the sidewall area. Objects are deflected away to protect sidewall against penetration.
- Connected shoulder tread - By connecting the tread and shoulder part, power through mud and soil condition and delivers improved high off-road traction.
- Mud and rock defender - Stone ejectors protect the tread grooves against stone drilling and puncturing. Also shed the mud and stones from the tread grooves to maximise the grip.
- Terrain wide tread design - By our engineering 3D simulation, optimized the pattern design. Provide ultimate off-road traction while keeping on-road and quietness.

Great off-road in all conditions, the tyres weak point is in soft sand. The compound and sidewall are both a little firm combined with the aggressive tread design. Amazing mileage on road with acceptable noise levels (slowly gets noisier as tread wears) Puncture resistance second to none, two sets no punctures, and have done Mitchell Falls, Dirk Hartog, Gibb and Tanamai on these.

So far I cannot fault them, even the road noise for a mud tyre is more like an all terrain it's great. Rough gravel roads they soak up ruts, holes and corrugation extremely well, wet tar I haven't lost grip once yet and with all this wet weather over the last year have tested that plenty! As goes with off road, in the wet they have handled very very well, obviously, on dry gravel/dirt they have been excellent, they stick to the road like tar and provide alot of confidence. Tread wear, probably the bit that has surprised me the most. All that other stuff is more or less typical of a mt tyre, I'm at 35000km and I was expecting to be at less than 50% tread left by now, but I'm still sitting at about 10mm of tread! At this rate they might last close to 90 or 100k. Have already bought another set on sale as spares and ready to go on when this set is done. Very impressed and happy with these tyres, they are a 10/10 for me.

Dry Performance - They've been very good so far, I've stood on the brakes hard and they have enough grip the ABS rarely kicks in from hard 80km/h stops. Wet Performance - Really surprised me, have performed better than the stock HT that came from factory. In H2 no issues to report, in H4 it sticks like a cat on carpet. Offroad - Incredible, they've turned my ute into a mountain goat. Aired down to 28psi, they handle corrugations perfect. Down to 18-22psi, they get through deep muddy clay ruts easily. Perfect on shale/rocks so far. Comfort - There's always a compromise with muddys. Slight vibration if the tyres are cold and you get on the highway straight away. Offroad - perfect. Fuel economy - 80km/h - 9L/100, 100km/h - 10L/100. 110km/h - 10.5-11.5L/100. Has become quite thirsty maintaining 110, especially through hilly highway roads. These are heavy tyres. Previous HT tyre economy would be about 8.5L/100 maintaining 100-110 speeds. Range from 75L would be close to 600-650km. Noise - I can still talk to a passenger at a low speaking voice, windows up. Windows down my snorkel is much louder than the tyres. Slight drone at 90, disappears at 100-110. 80 and under - silent. Treadwear - Keep and eye on your tyre pressures and they wear very well. I run 35psi on road, 40psi felt a little bouncy. Value - 18" is still an expensive size, buy them when Hankook does 4 for 3 deals. If you're doing tracks every second weekend, I'd say they're well worth it, If you're towing a van or trailer go with an AT and save a lot of fuel.

Just racked up 5000kms on these after a week in the Otweys. They are excellent on road for a mud tyre. Handle well on the road in the wet - much better than my previous KM2s. They do hum as expected and they may get louder as they get older. Off road they were excellent and despite the gnarly tracks and gravel roads they have no chips. Saw the previous review from old mate who destroyed his set on shaley roads and was a bit worried. After some of the abuse I've put them through I can't understand how he did it.

I brought these tyres just 3 weeks ago. I had the Dynapro 1 for 5 years and were absolutely fantastic so thought going to the new Dynapro 2 would be a good idea. How wrong I was. I drove just 50 of dirt road and all the side walls have deep cuts in them and chips in the tread. They had only driven 200km of sealed roads. So are brand new. No warranty on this and will now be forced to buy new tyres absolutely rubbish. Stay well away. I had 44psi for sealed road and 30psi on dirt

So good, i really never thought about them. It wasn't till i destroyed them on seriously crap slate roads that i thought about all the time i drove. Effortlessly and quiet. Handles wet. Looking to buy another set as I write. Just a little pricey sometimes

These are by far the best mud tyre I have owned, for both on and off-road performance. On-road - tyre noise is amazing, sounds like a normal road tyre. Handles great in the wet, I don't have to adjust my driving style when it rains. Off-road - these are great for bog holes. The unique tread design lets me crawl through the muddy pits and I haven't (touch wood) gotten stuck yet! At the price point, they are a top-quality off-road tyre that competes and outperforms some of the other premium brands. I would recommend these tyres to anyone that is serious about getting off-road, even if only on weekends. They perform great on normal town/highway driving and get all the thumbs up from me!
